They explained that they'd do it but didn't like to because the hard chrome lining in the guns dulled their reamers quickly. The one I have remaining was bought from a gunshop and when I asked for the chokes to be modified they cringed. To give other choke combinations, they sawed off so much of the muzzle and then re-installed the sight bead. I always preferred 1/4 & 1/2 chokes (IC & Mod) and the guns arrived with full and 3/4 chokes. I bought several Baikals from the English importer whose warehouses were in Colchester both O/U & SxS. I imagine that most, if not all, Baikals made today feature choke tubes. Looking down the side of the barrels showed waves. I also noted that the barrels have not been draw-filed as mine was. I bought several in the 1980's and the one I have now was purchased in 1986 IIRC.īy chance, yesterday I was looking at a Baikal being sold as a Remington O/U and it's nothing more than an IJ-27E with different cosmetics. Only the Russians can answer that question! LOL
